Christian Music Artist Reviews

I don't just review the album. I review the artist and the image they put out. Although I review signed artists, I also review Indie artists. The goal of this blog is to make aware to readers the music that is often overlooked that glorifies our God. Hope you guys enjoy! :D

As a gift while I was in the hospital a friend gave me an itunes gift card and this was one of the albums I bought. One word, INCREDIBLE. I absolutely love this album. His voice, lyrics, musical ingenuity, and everything about the album I would back with my reputation.

The album consists of 10 songs with varying tempos and meanings. Song order is as followed:

1. Awakening

2. When the Waters Rise

3. Our Great God

4. Power in Your Name

5. Coming Alive

6. Light of the World

7. Faithful Over Us

8. Only Our God

9. Brilliant Light

10. Every Perfect Gift

My favorites are “Awakening” “Our Great God” “Power in Your Name” “Coming Alive” and “Every Perfect Gift” The theme of this album, if I had to make it one theme, would definitely be just exalting God for all that He is. Each song has a characteristic about God that it praises, which is awesome! :D

Lyrics: What more can I say? They’re great! They are deep, and they’re catchy.

Voice: Excellent voice. The kind you could listen to all day and not get annoyed with it. It doesn’t stick out compared to other artists, but it is still pleasant.

Music: EXCELLENT! He has an awesome electronic vibe going throughout the songs. He knows when to speed things along, and he knows when to slow it down and feel it more. It’s just really good.

BONUS TRIVIA!!! It was produced by Steve Fee, which makes this album even better. Plus Steve Fee actually wrote some of the songs. I love that guy. :D

This album isn’t strictly under the CCM radar, but I’m going to review it because it has several amazing songs on here that are directed towards God, and the love songs that are on here are very cute and innocent too.

Ok LOVE LOVE LOVE this album. It comes with such a hefty message. The title of the album was inspired by a little girl from Rwanda. The idea of the song is that if we open our eyes to the reality of the world, and see people’s suffering we can’t turn away and not help.

The way she spins her lyrics… ugh.. it’s amazing. I can pinpoint a Brooke Fraser lyric because her writing style is so unique and eloquent at the same time. The lyrics are just incredible. They’re packed full of meaning. If her words are like an animal… they’d be a Lion.. because they are dominant. :D

The music is beautiful. It is a relaxed more Indie sound I guess I would say. Bordering on soft pop with an occasional twist of acoustic chillness. It’s beautiful and catchy, but not chessy catchy.

Her voice… AHHHH I don’t even know where to start with her voice. It’s… almost perfect. I would say it were perfect except her gentle tendency to be just a bit too breathy for my taste, but it’s to enhance the music…. so it isn’t odd. But overall just a gorgeous voice. :)

My favorite songs from the album are:

C.S. Lewis Song

The Thief

Love is Waiting

Deciphering Me

Shadowfeet

All the songs are good… it is a MUST BUY. :)

This album makes me super thoughtful about life, and God, and just everything. This album is so unique (kinda like Audrey Assad). It isn’t what I’d consider a get up and move kind of album, but it is definitely a music library MUST. There are so many reasons whyyyyy you HAVE to get this album, but the two biggest reasons are the lyrics and her voice. Ahhh I love her voice 10 times more than Britt Nicole and I love Britt Nicole. That’s saying a lot.

The music is really chill. It’s raw in a way because it’s so earthy and just… ahhh soo good. :) She has a way of taking piano and just her voice and making magic. It’s not overly complex, it’s not synthesized in any way, but it’s incredible.

If the awesome music wasn’t enough it has the most beautiful lyrics. Audrey Assad is seriously a poet. Her lyrics aren’t shallow at all, and their depth is breath-taking. Her writing has a lot of metaphor and simile… which are some of my favorite literary devices. :D

Her voice is sooo cool. It’s free-spirited and airy in a good way. She has the most unique and beautiful tone. I love it!!!! Plus she has awesome range! :)

My favorite songs are:

For Love of You

Everything is Yours

Restless

Ought to Be (top fav)

This is a music library for sooo many reasons. If you listen to the entire album you will realize that there is absolutely not one bad song. There isn’t any “filler”. I love it just for that reason alone, but there’s more. The balance of fun, meaningful, and deep song lyrics are superb on this album. Not only that but the order of how she delivers the magic is perfect. Another reason is the sheer honesty of this album. Each song has a story, and you can tell that Britt Nicole believes and has lived everything that she is singing. Very rarely does an album come along like this, and I love it. Not only do I love it, but it has sold extremely well and gotten awesome amounts of radio air time.

This album is absolutely incredible and I would recommend a purchase for sure! I’ll break it down to you guys some more… just in case you’ve never heard of Britt Nicole.

Musically she has a really cool pop hip hop thing going on. The music is full of energy, and so is Britt Nicole. I’ve seen her live and AHHH she has presence. It has beat, and yet she can bring it down into something tender and heart felt.

Her voice is soooo unique. I’ll be honest and say that when I first heard her I wasn’t sure what I thought, but it totally grew on me and I love it now. It’s very bright and full of energy and I love it! It matches her music perfectly.

My favorite songs from this album are:

Lost get Found

Safe

Welcome to the show

Walk on the water

But they are all incredibly good! Get this album!!!!!

I would definitely stamp this album as an honest album. The lyrics are sung right from where they’re at, what they’re experiencing, thinking. It isn’t the deepest of all albums lyrically, but it’s an album that could reach out to people who are hurting and need encouragement. I like that it hits on not finding our worth in things or what we can be in a worldly sense.

I would liken their sound to that of Bruno Mars and a hint of Maroon 5. I know they’re not CCM but I figured they were the best comparison. They have a cool pop/rock/R&B sound. It’s a little funky in a good way. Their music is creative from the normal CCM, but it isn’t so out there that it’s awkward. They definitely have songs that are fun for dancing too.

They have some unique songs that make direct reference to popular secular music which I thought was interesting.

I like the vocals of Tauren Wells (lead vocals). He has a smoothness to it. He exists in the upper range of male vocals, and he does it with ease. I’m not usually a fan of falsetto… it can get sticky and just eww, but he does it super well and I like the sound.

I have 2 complaints for this album. 1. I want more faster songs. There isn’t enough energy I felt like for the whole album. Or if they maybe arranged the song listing differently that would work too. 2. Lyrically I always look for more depth to what they are saying, but they aren’t like terrible. They are just more human focused rather than God focused. Which… is ok for some music.

Overall pretty good. If you like a a little different flavor in your music I think you’ll like this. It’s unique, and it is pretty much the only sound in CCM like it right now. If you like Bruno Mars you’ll probably like Royal Tailor.
